Boeing 757...................................................................................Specifications
EL AL was a relitively late customer for the Boeing 757, the first example being delivered in 1987. The 757 could be used on trunk routes to Europe. This example 4X-EBS is seen as she appeared at Amsterdam Schiphol on the 11th of January 2009. She was delivered in 1990 new from Boeing. From April 2009 she flew for the EL AL subsidiary Sun d'Or International Airlines until September 2011. She was then converted to freighter configuration and now flies for Fed-Ex. In 2015 she was still current with the company.
The Boeing 757 was built at a time when large wide body aircraft used on medium to long journey distances, seemed to have become established as the trend. Intially designed as a replacement for the Boeing, 727 it was developed in very close contact to Eastern Airlines and British Airways, the two launch customers for the type. In effect the need for an aircraft with similar accomodation to the 727/Trident was needed with new technology engines and avionics. The prototype took to the skies on 19 February 1982 and 757s entered service with Eastern Airlines on 1 January 1983 and with British Airways on 9 February 1983.
Due to its exceptional performance the 757 can be operated from virtually any airport in the world. Short-field runways,high/hot locations or from airports with sensitive noise regulations; all these locations prove no problem for this aircraft.
The 200 series can carry up to 239 passengers and has a maxium range of 7,240 km. As with all newer generation civil aircraft, has a two man cockpit. Other models to be produced are the 200M model, which is a Combi Passenger / freight aircraft and the 200PF designed for small package carriers such as UPS both with a forward port side cargo door.
A further development of the basic airframe is the very elegent 300 series which has a 23ft stretch to the basic fuselage, making it 178 ft 7 in long. The aircraft also has higher weights and greater range. The first aircraft was delivered to the launch customer Condor Flugdienst on the 6th of March 2004. This aircraft has the lowest operating cost per seat-mile of any single aisle jetliner.
